Hens Runhaar. I would like to introduce myself. Terrorists, war, refugees as Art, what is the connection with Hens Runhaar? Who is Hens Runhaar? Born in Goor, in 1945 and raised in Twente, moved to the west of Holland (Zevenhoven, Alphen a/d Rijn), obsessed with painting and drawing. Got a degree in drawing while in the fourth form at secondery school, later M.A. in Art and further training in history of Art. Worked as a Artteacher for a long time. Apart from that, painting, drawing and graphic work. Initially exhibitions. No longer after our three children were born. Too expensive. Took part in the international exhibition in Brussels, 'Les Arts en Europe', where I won the bronze medal of the city of Brussels. Work still both 'free'(showing commitment to social and political issues)and commercial for Art trade, a.o. pendrawings for companies on the occasions of jubilees. Subjects of the past few years: the fate of the Palestinians, Iraqi civilians who have fallen victim to violence, in particular violence committed by the Israeli and American armies. Also terrorism. Still I try to make more optimistic works, like paintings and drawings of nature, portraits, also (commercial) and still life.I have noticed that there are few artists who occupy themselves with the themes mentioned above, these are not the kind of works people hang on the walls of their livingrooms but surely there is more than 'just filling the walls'? Or is this typically Postmodern? I would like to exhibit my (often large)works in a large gallery that dares to be different. Just for once.
